Our Horses

Almost all of our rescue horses are senior citizens--horses that have been abused, abandoned, or neglected and are finishing their golden years in beautiful pastures with buddies instead of in the slaughter house.  Private pastures, which have been generously donated by caring residents of Auburn,  are spread throughout the country roads, so Niña's job of caring for the horses  is time consuming.  She drives her blue truck through the hills, stopping by each pasture to check on all of the horses.  She tosses hay where necessary, removes fly masks, checks eyes, worms, and looks for any injuries. Then she loves on them. She gives scratches, rubs their necks, caresses them and talks lovingly to them.  All of our horses--many of whom had been malnourished--are now plump.  She believes firmly in not skimping on food. Local farriers donate services and donations pay for vet needs and worming. The horses are all friendly and personable. They have known nothing but love and kind attention from her, and they trot to the fence line to greet her for hands-on affection and a treat or two.

This is Brent when he first came to Horses' Honor: Brent today. Brent is on the right. He and his pasture buddy are both in their 30s and have few teeth left. That's no reason to not be plump and shiny!
